French Memorial
Pukeahu National War Memorial Park
ABOUT
On the occasion of the one hundredth anniversary of World War I, and at the invitation of New Zealand authorities, a French memorial will be inaugurated within the Pukeahu National War Memorial Park in Wellington in 2018. The memorial, a gift from France to New Zealand, will celebrate and bear testimony to the long-lasting friendship and the strong bonds forged between France and New Zealand since the WWI battlefields.

"Let's try, through the magic of artistic creation, to bond the land where the war took place and the space dedicated to remembrance".
Patrice Alexandre
"The memorial will recognise the long-lasting friendship and the strong bonds forged between France and New Zealand during the First World War."
Dr Monty Soutar
"It needs to be a monument to what grew out of that “devastated soil”. This should be a monument to the relationship between the two countries, during and since the war."
Lt-Gen. Rhys Jones
